Synthesizer Guide

Enhancing Your Synthesizer Experience

Regardless of what the activity is, we always wish to enhance the experience. Oftentimes, we struggle in the beginning to make things works. If one persists, they will usually reach a level of satisfaction. However, if an individual makes the decision to give up early, they will never get to experience an activity to its fullest potential. This is a classic case with synthesizers – people want to learn how to play them and become successful doing so, but more often than not they will quit or drastically slow down their regiment.

So how can you enhance your experience with synthesizer keyboards? Well, it all starts with patience. Before you even pick up a synthesizer for the first time, you must understand that it will likely take a long time before you truly experience excellence and greatness as a synthesizer beginner. Are there ways to expedite the process? Absolutely. Is it possible to become a total stud in your first week? Probably not. The #1 way to become a better producer is the same way to become great at anything – through hard work and practice. Fortunately, we live in a digital age and you can learn virtually all you will ever need to become a magnificent musician. Just make sure you have the right beginner workstation.

1. Practice, practice, and more practice

They say perfect practice makes perfect and while that statement generally holds true, mediocre practice is still better than no practice at all. Over time, no matter how strong or weak you perceive your skills to be, you should expect to get better and better. The differences might not be noticeable from day to day, but certainly so from week to week and on a monthly basis (if you’re practicing the right things). Remember, practice 1 kick every day for 1,000 days and not 1,000 kicks in one day.

2. Absorb as much as you can

Practice is the most essential part of becoming great, but almost as important is the knowledge you absorb from those around you. Whether it be at the local instrument store, a live performance, or just a YouTube video, you must always be absorbing and retaining information if you wish to achieve anything in regards to music and synthesizers.

3. Secure the best environment possible

When talking about environment, we need not look only at the physical surroundings. This also includes things like learning material, equipment, and the people around you. For a rich learning experience, one must have supportive people around them and avoid those who break them down. You can make it work without expensive equipment like a Roland GAIA, but it is important to understand that a better synthesizer can help propel you towards a greater, more enhanced experience.

Conclusion

The instrument and music world is generally a tough one and if you’re not persistent, it can mess with your head. The synthesizer is highly sophisticated and you might even have a harder time learning to excel with it than you would with a piano or guitar. This is why it is especially important to follow these basic principles well when you’re looking to become great with a synthesizer. I don’t know if there is an instrument in the world that causes more frustration and anger (in the beginning stages) than a workstation keyboard. Remember though, the struggle is well worth it.
